Left of Center: Student Curators Reflect On Their Experience Reinstalling the Anderson’s Permanent Collection
It was a nice surprise to find this article from 2020 about seven graduate student curators at Stanford’s Cantor Art Center, who worked to rehang the Anderson Collection on the occasion of the collection’s fifth anniversary.
My 1968 Dodecagon, Spoke, is part of the collection, and it is humbling and an honor to see it installed between a powerful Philip Guston painting and one of Diebenkorn’s large Ocean Park series paintings. A photo gallery, part of the installation, implies that I showed at LA’s Ferus Gallery, which isn’t true (I was across the street at Nicholas Wilder Gallery); but I’m in good company and saw the Ferus painters quite a bit in the LA art scene of the 1960s, 70s, 80s and beyond. There is a very cool interactive virtual tour of the full exhibition, worth looking at.
